About The Artist - J.Lee Payne
J. Lee Payne is one of Lakeland’s foremost landscape artists. His highly detailed oil paintings and dramatic watercolours are much sought after, and can be found in collections worldwide.
Born in Barrow-in-Furness in 1969, Lee has always held a lifetime interest in drawing and painting. Through his work and intimate knowledge of the Lakeland Fells, he is constantly pursuing higher standards of accuracy and spends a lot of time sketching outdoors to capture the changing light according to the seasons. His attention to detail, light and shade, and application of colour, ensures that each painting captures a precise moment in time, whether it is an atmospheric mountain scene or a picturesque image of a tranquil lake.
Lee still lives and works in Cumbria, in the North-West of England, where the sweeping beaches of the coastline, and the rugged mountain scenery of the Lake District, never fail to provide inspiration for his stunningly beautiful landscape paintings.
‘The Cumbrian landscape offers something for everyone…...from the drama of the Lakeland Fells to the quiet solitude of its golden beaches, it is without doubt the most beautiful county in England. I love the challenge of trying to capture the atmosphere of the place through my paintings.’
